Qatar Airways ReviewsHead-quartered in Doha, Qatar Airways is the flagship carrier of the State of Qatar, a sovereign country in the Middle East that occupies the north-east coast of Arabian Peninsula.

Owing to sharing its borders with only one other country namely Saudi Arabia, the rest being flanked by the Persian Gulf, this country acts as a major hub where air travel is concerned. Courtesy of the country’s location, Qatar Airways enjoys a centralized position from where it is equidistant to several parts of the world. Therefore, if you are at its base at Hamad International Airport, you will be able to fly to 146 destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, America and Oceania in one of the 100 aircrafts that this entity operates.

Qatar Airways was founded in November 1993 and commenced operations just two months later in January 1994, Amman, the capital city of Jordan being its first destination. At that time, the airline had just 75 employees and two aircrafts which provided services to several commercial hubs in Asia and Cairo in Egypt. During the years that followed, several changes were brought about in terms of itinerary and at the same time several new aircrafts of varying models were also acquired in terms of being leased and also purchased.

As a group, Qatar Airways reported its first profit in the year 2004 as more destinations were added to the list. The fleet size also expanded rapidly and 2012 turned out to be the landmark year in this airlines’ graph owing to it having gained the membership of Oneworld alliance. Acquisition of aircraft has continued well into 2015 also wherein the current fleet size stands at 156 and the number of subsidiaries owned by the company stands at seven.

If you are traveling by Qatar Airways, upon entering the aircraft, you will find the interior to be segregated into three classes namely first, business and economy. Amongst these, first class is luxury personified in terms of leg space, seats that can be transformed into beds and a variety of entertainment options to choose from. Business class passengers are entitled to comfortable seats which feature a maximum recline till 172 degrees and are also equipped to form massage functions. Travelers opting to fly in business class can also transform their seats into beds and can avail wine and champagne. Economy class offers seat-back television screens to their passengers while some aircrafts also feature touch-screen version.

Entertainment on the flight is referred to as Oryx and is inclusive of movies, music, television channels ranging from popular sitcoms to news and sports, gaming and a USB port to support laptops.
Under its frequent flyer program, Qatar Airways offers a loyalty package wherein travellers benefit from schemes under several other franchisees under a reciprocal agreement. This program also comprises of the Privilege Club wherein flyers can avail of hotels and car rentals on an international scale.

For passengers traveling by first and business class, Qatar Airways has opened a Premium Terminal at the Doha International Airport in 2006 which is inclusive of several facilities ranging from duty-free shopping and spa to play area for children. The airline maintains a similar lounge at Heathrow Terminal in London too which opened in 2012.
