Garmin Vivosmart HR VS Fitbit Charge HR
Having an activity monitor (which you can also call a fitness band or heart rate monitor) is the “in” thing of today and is also referred to as a “Smartwatch”. As we talk about this new trending Smartwatch, let us have a look at the most prominent yet two of the very best brands capturing the market with their bands,
• Garmin’s Vivosmart HR
AND
• Fitbit’s Charge HR
When talking about Garmin’s Vivosmart HR, this is claimed to be their best one yet as we see it aiming for new heights. With its sleek design, this activity monitor comes in two sizes, regular and extra large. It is an easy to wear watch having a touch screen system that supports your comfort with an optical heart rate centre located at its back which monitors your heartbeat. It is waterproof and can be worn during a shower or swim. It has a display that is pretty visible even in the brightest sunlight or even in the darkest room where its backlight illuminates the display.
The main display screen is the Date and Time with a Move Bar below the display which is a very cool and unique option only available in the Garmin bands. This “Move Bar” basically indicates the time that you have been sitting idle, giving you a nudging vibration to move if you have been sitting for far too long. When you swipe you will see
– The steps you have taken
– Floors you have climbed
– Your active minutes
– How many calories you have burned
– Distance you covered
– Controlling your media
– Weather
Now when tracking your heart rate, only when you run will the band monitor your heart rate every second otherwise it takes a reading every 5 minutes and stores data for up to 14 days. Pretty cool, isn’t it? All your data will then be linked to Garmin’s phone app. Not only this, it has amazing customisation options too including changing your display vertically or even adjusting auto-laps (a feature only Garmin offers).
We know you have been wowed away by Garmin’s Vivosmart, but slow down and see what Fitbit has to offer in their smartwatch. We are sure you will be pretty confused which one to get.
Fitbit Charge HR comes with a smooth slightly patterned silicon band and has a lock similar to that of any ordinary watch. Plus it does not snag with your shirt sleeves so that is pretty convenient. Its texture resists dust and the back of it also has an optical sensor, just like the Garmin Vivosmart HR. However, this band has only been rated as splash resistant, which means no swimming with the band on. This has a display smaller and sleeker than the Garmin HR’s but it is not touch screen operative. The main display screen shows the Time and further clicking the button on the side displays:
– Steps you have taken
– Your heart rate
– Distance estimated
– Calories you have burned
– Stairs you have climbed
While long press of the button starts a stopwatch.
All this information then syncs up with the Fitbit App in your phone, in which you can also customise the goals you set for everyday activities listed above. When monitoring the heart rate, it comes with instructions to wear the band leaving, at least, one finger gap from your wrist. Fitbit Charge HR also comes with a feature of sending an early email to your id to let you know your band is low on charge. Huh, we know, right?
If you ask us to decide, we would probably end up getting both as each one has its own distinctive features that make it stand out. Garmin collects and features more data than the Fitbit, where the Fitbit Charge HR makes for an exceptional all-purpose activity tracking watch.
So, we will let you be the judge of which one to choose from. Let us know your opinion in the comments section.
