There are some stores situated on the Mid-Atlantic Region and the eastern coast.

Key points for comparison
Check Book has conducted a price survey on the popular market basket comparison and this survey included mostly the national brands. Trader Joe’s is offering mainly its own brands. A special survey was done on them. This survey included the same meat and fresh produce products and some dairy items that are always included in a standard survey. The national branded items were compared with the prices of the house brands at Trader Joe’s. These prices for the in-house branded products were compared with those charged by other supermarkets like Safeway. The comparison was done on generic brands they carried and while comparing the prices, the factoring was done on price per unit, for example per ounce. A summarized comparison of collective items in a basket revealed that a Trader Joe’s basket cost $88 while the same basket at Safeway’s cost $99. Trader Joe’s prices were about twelve per cent lower than the comparable average market basket of produce, dairy, meat and branded products at Safeway (Source: Checkbook.org).
