Backpacker vs Hotel Accommodation:
Prior to embarking on a trip, taking stock of various accommodation options is strongly recommended and while doing so, a point that would be immediately evident is that the options of backpacking and hotel accommodation occupy two extreme ends of the spectrum.
Difference between the two becomes apparent from the first step onward wherein backpacking does not call for any advance bookings while a hotel stay needs to be booked beforehand in most cases. The fun of backpacking lies in its lack of organization because this is where your sense of adventure creeps in. However, there is some order in the chaos too wherein you are totally responsible for your belongings as also the manner in which you need to stuff them into your backpack and carry them around.
Staying in a hotel is definitely a luxurious experience but also one for which you need to pay a lump-sum amount. Privacy is the biggest plus point of putting up in a hotel and unless you desire, level of interaction with other guest or even fellow travellers will be limited to bare minimum. On the flip side, this means that you will miss out on the opportunity of exchanging notes with other travellers who might provide a useful tip or two from their personal experience.
Comparatively, backpacking entails plenty of close interaction and hence is a good opportunity for cultivating new friendships as also strengthening old bonds. More often than not you will be sharing a dorm or any other space with others from your group. While this means no me-time for yourself, it also helps to develop deep undercurrents, some of which may turn out to be lifelong.
Ultimately, backpacking accommodation is all about self-help, personalised touch and being social while a hotel accommodation is totally impersonal, professional and lonesome.

I think backpack and hotel accommodation are two very different things.
A backpacking trip sometimes surprised us in so many ways. Mostly, when we go backpacking, we want to press the accommodation budget as low as possible. Thus, we must be ready if the place that we choose to stay is a “standard”. For example, we can expect hot shower in hotel room, but we ready to bath with cold water when we choose a budget accommodation one. But, sometimes, we are lucky enough to get cheap accommodation and good facilities :D. Our “readiness to get the worst” when we go backpacking sometimes makes us more grateful for all we have, less grumble/dissatisfied. In contrast, when we book hotel for a so called “more luxurious trip”, we usually set high our expectation, and once the reality doesn’t meet our expectation, we easily become dissatisfied.
It just my two cents, but the bottom line is, as long as we enjoy our trip, both of those two options are always okay! 😀
