Coke Zero vs Diet Coke
Coca-Cola or simply Coke is a carbonated drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. At first it was introduced to people as a medicine when it was invented by John Pemberton in the 19th century. This beverage came into being during a research of finding a substitute for morphine for the wounded in the American Civil War.
At first it was sold in Atlanta, Georgia and from there it was exported around the world. Since 2012 Coke is easily available in every country around the world except Cuba and North Korea.
Under the Coke brand, there are options including Coke Zero and Diet Coke. Coke Zero is a product of The Coca-Cola Company and it was introduced in the market in 2005 as a drink for men. This idea came from the fact that men often asociate ”diet drinks” with women. So Coke Zero was introduced as a low-calorie drink targeted for men who were interested in beverages but were conscious of their weight.
Diet Coke is also a product of The Coca-Cola Company and the first Diet Coke bottle was produced in 1982 in USA. It is a sugar-free soft drink and was the second drink produced under the brand of Coca-Cola.
These two drinks can be easily compared. At first sight both of them have a dark caramel colour and because they are produced by the same company, they have similar logos with little differences. Both drinks are carbonated and by their name it is quite obvious that they are targeted towards people who are very conscious about their health and weight.
When it comes to their ingredients there are some differences. One litre of Coke Zero contains 96mg of caffeine. For the sweet taste, artificial sweeteners which include aspartame and acesulfame potassium are used. Other ingredients in Coke Zero are carbonated purified water, flavour, colour (caramel 150d), preservative 211, food acid (338, 330) and sweeteners (951,950).
One litre of Diet Coke contains 12.8mg of caffeine and other ingredients like carbonated purified water, flavour, sweeteners colour (caramel 150d), food acid (338, 331), (951,950), preservative 211 and caffeine. It is very easy to see that these two drink have similar ingredients, but the taste is a little bit different.
About the nutritional information it is known that Coke Zero label reads that it has 0 Calories, 0g Fat, 40mg Sodium, 0g Total Carbs, 0g Protein and the Diet Coke nutritional information looks exactly the same. Some people say that Diet Coke contains somewhere between 1-4 calories but this is not specified on the label because if a product has less than 5 calories the producer is not forced to mention it on the label.
In conclusion, the main points of difference between these two drinks are the taste, labels, target audience, some ingredients and some nutritional facts. Despite the fact that these drinks have no sugar and it is said that they are better for health, the artificial sweeteners that are used have caused some contradictory discussions about the health problems that they can cause. However, the company has taken its stand and demonstrated that Coca-Cola drinks are safe to use and there is no excess.
