City or country?
It is not easy to take a decision on whether city life or rural life is better for a person. It will depend on the circumstances in his or her life. If there is a career choice where it is necessary to live in a city, then city life becomes necessary whereas if there are situations where a person prefers to live in rural areas and commute to a city for work, it could also be justified.
Rural living may not only be for the retired or for the farmers. Conversely, if you are a social ant and are attracted to the glitz and glamour of a town and would like to go to cinemas or plays every week, city life is for you.
City Life
When you live in the city, you will have the whole world at your doorstep. You can eat out, visit galleries and museums whenever you like.
City life also teaches you to be tolerant when you face the traffic jams and learn to adapt every day. You learn fast in a city that it is a diverse place. You tend to become a thick skinned person when you live in a city for a long time as you learn how to adjust in the hustle and bustle along with several hardships from dawn to dusk to earn your daily bread. There is nothing that shakes a city dweller as he or she does not have any time to react when someone is rude at the subway or when anyone cuts ahead while queuing at the groceries. The city dweller has to adjust and learn fast on how to be patient and empathize. Compromise is the very essence of city life. You will have to reach an agreement with your neighbor about not disturbing him or her with your Saturday partying.
Rural Life
You can live like a landlord or a king when you move to the countryside and live a rural life. You will not be paying rents through your nose. Life is relatively inexpensive when you compare it with that in the city. You can have a good meal at a diner for a pittance. No one will bother when you wear whatever you like when you go out. The trousers, shoes, belts and purses may not be as per the latest fashion. You can live in a huge cottage with multiple bedrooms, king-sized bathrooms and spacious garage. Housing is dirt cheap. There are no overcrowded subways or metros to tackle during the day.
There is plenty of space for you, your family and your pets. There will not be any annoying neighbours. You will not have to think twice about playing music loud as there will not be anyone sharing your boundary wall. You will have your own backyard where you can play football with your children and chase fireflies in the night. You can even identify the constellations in the crystal clear night skies.
Which would you choose?
City life versus a rural life is not something that can easily be debated. It will all depend on a person’s circumstances in life. There are several benefits to each kind of life and the major differential factor will be based on your priorities in life. The decision to live anywhere will depend on what aspects are most important in life. This answer may not be the same for every person.
